Car rental

Rental Car - St. Lucia - HotelsTo explore our beautiful island at your own pace, whether for convenience or adventure, you might want to rent a car or a Jeep. Our suggestion? If you’re tired after your flight, simply arrange to have your rental car delivered to the Inn the next morning, after you’ve settled in and rested up. Please note that all car rental companies at both airports often close around 6:00 pm.

Churches

Almost 90% of St. Lucians are Roman Catholic. Other denominations include Anglican, Methodist, Baptist, Seventh Day Adventist, Church of the Nazarene, Church of Christ, Christian Science and the Salvation Army. Times vary at individual churches, so it's best to call before attending.

Climate and Clothing

St. Lucia's temperature varies from 28 to 32 degrees Celsius (82 to 90 degrees Far.) and the climate is tempered by constant, cooling trade winds. Visitors should bring cool, comfortable clothing and a good pair of walking shoes. While jacket and tie are rarely required, overly casual beachwear is not appreciated off the beach. (Please note that Web based weather and forecasts are not always accurate. St. Lucia weather is great, as our former guests will tell you! - Just take a look at their comments!)

Economy

The banana was introduced to St. Lucia in the middle of the century, where it quickly replaced sugar cane and coconut as the island's main source or revenue. Although still a major industry today, the banana is finally giving way to tourism, as the island continues to adapt to changing global markets. When you visit St. Lucia, you'll understand why the island's incredible beauty and the charm of its people is truly a natural resource to behold, to share and to treasure.

Electricity

St. Lucia conforms to the European standard of 220 volts at 50 cycles but transformers for electrical appliances are available at The Inn. All our guest rooms have both 2-pin American flat type connections and UK 3-pin square type connections. Electric shaver transformers are available in all of our bathrooms for US (110V) and European connections (220V).

Language

English is the official language, but the historical French influence is still present in the local patois still spoken by many St. Lucians among themselves.

Money

We recommend that you carry US$ or travelers checks. One US$ is worth approximately 2.50 Eastern Caribbean dollars (EC$). You can change your American money at The Inn or at banks located in Marigot Bay, Castries or Rodney Bay. All major Credit Cards are widely accepted in St. Lucia in most shopping centers, restaurants, hotels, etc... Banks are opened from 8.00 AM to 3.00 PM, Monday through Thursday, and Friday from 8.00 AM to 5.00 PM. Some banks also have Saturday morning hours at their sub-branches in Rodney Bay.  Note: there's an ATM service in Marigot Bay.

Rum

The Distillery in the Lush Green Roseau Valley - St. Lucia - HotelsSt. Lucia's only Rum Distillery is located in the lush Roseau Valley, which is 10 minutes away from Marigot Bay.  On arrival you will be able to view our rum story which gives you a brief outline of the rum industry both historical and contemporary.

You will be given a tour of the facility where you will receive first hand information on how rum is made.  In addition you will experience the taste of over 20 different exotic blends of rums and liqueurs and hundreds of years of rum production knowledge captured to produce a quality product for you!

Tours are conducted every half hour. Opening Hours: Monday to Friday: 9.30 AM to 4.00 PM.

Shopping Advice

If you plan to buy duty free items at duty free shopping malls such as La Place Carenage, Pointe Seraphine or J. Q. Mall in Rodney Bay, you need to bring you airline ticket and identification. You will be required to show both when making your purchases.

Store Hours

Store hours in Castries may vary, but are generally from 8.30 AM to 4.30 PM Monday Through Friday, and from 8.30 AM to 1.00 PM on Saturday. Malls and Supermarkets are open from 9.00 AM to 8.00 PM, Monday through Saturday, and from 9.00 AM to 1.00 PM on Saturday.

Taxis, Water-Taxis and Public transportation

Taxis and Water-Taxisare a popular means of getting around. Drivers are well-informed and friendly and know nearly all the points of interest. Before you hire a taxi or a water-taxi for a day, settle on the price. To look at our Sightseeing and Shopping Tours, please click HERE. But for a real St. Lucian adventure try the local minibuses, the island's very unique public transportation. They are clean, frequent, safe and inexpensive.

Time Differences

Eastern Daylight time all year round. Europe: October to April - 5 hours ahead (4 to UK), April to October - 6 hours ahead. North America: 1 to 3 hours behind.

Tipping

Restaurants add a 10% service charge to the bill. Any additional gratuity is up to you. Cab drivers should be tipped about 10%, while airport porters should receive US$00.50 per bag.
